Special Olympics launch summer camp

building awareness for World Games

On the 25 June, 2018, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 invited people with intellectual disability to participate in a new summer camp at Dubai Sports World.

Developed and organized  as part of our ongoing client relationship with World Games 2019, the six week summer camp has attracted the support of the Dubai Sports Council, Dubai World Trade Centre and Emaar Properties. People with intellectual disabilities from Dubai and Sharjah have been invited to take part, building awareness across the UAE of the Special Olympics World Games next March 2019, and contributing towards the overarching goal of increasing inclusion in sports and culture across the country.

The summer camp sees the participants attend weekly training sessions in football, basketball and cycling, with the help of qualified trained coaches from Just Play and GoldsGym, as well as World Games 2019 Ambassadors Omar Nour, Nick Watson and Zahra Lari,  Special Olympics UAE team athletes and Emaar employees. The aim is to aid training and mentor the participants in the development of their skills and confidence, and to encourage athlete registration for the World Games next year.
