Tackling diabetes at Walk 2018

5km walkathon in Abu Dhabi promotes healthier lifestyles

The 12th edition of Abu Dhabi’s annual walkathon for diabetes, WALK 2018, was held at Yas Island on Friday, 16 November. Organised by the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), WALK is the capital’s largest walkathon dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and promoting healthier lifestyles in the UAE by encouraging the population to adopt more active lifestyles.

On Friday, thousands from across the UAE came together at Abu Dhabi’s iconic Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Abu Dhabi Etihad Grand Prix, to participate in the 5km walk and take part in ICLDC’s cause. The event, seen as a fitness festival in its own regard, also featured several fitness activities to engage participants of all ages. The activities included inflatable playgrounds, football challenges, table tennis, trampolining, gladiator challenges and much more.

The event was put together by the Middle East team, who oversaw all event and marketing operations as well as event sponsorship. Earlier this year, WALK 2018 underwent a rebranding process to bring a more fresh and dynamic feel to the brand. The event’s new branding elements and guidelines were delivered entirely by the Live team in the Middle East.
