Encouraging the appropriate soccer environment




 

Issue

Youth soccer in America did not have a proper barometer for measuring success, which created an obsession with winning that impedes proper development. At its peak, Players First will be a brand that everyone – especially parents – can relate to as a way to distinguish clubs that are encouraging the appropriate soccer environment. This is done through adherence to the five pillars of Players First: Club Development, Coaching Development, Player Development, Parent Engagement & Education and Player Health & Safety.




 

Idea

Players First was launched Aug. 8-9, 2015 at Nike World Headquarters in front of a collection of influential youth soccer leaders and Players First partners. The platform is being implemented both digitally – through a robust presence at usclubsoccer.org/playersfirst – and physically at events, such as LaLiga Formation Methodology courses, the annual NSCAA Convention and major US Club Soccer programming. In the future, we’ll continue to expand online through a searchable database of Players First-licensed clubs and through additional events, like Player Health & Safety summits.




 

Impact

  • The creation of usclubsoccer.org/playersfirst has driven an increase in web traffic in YTD data, including 12 percent increase in page views, 12 percent increase in sessions and 27 percent increase in users.
  • Through four courses around the country, LaLiga Formation Methodology has educated about 600 coaches from 175 clubs/organizations.
  • The signing of LaLiga to a long-term technical partnership in itself is ground-breaking. This is the first time LaLiga has invested significant resources in American soccer.
  • Ten partners have joined the Players First portfolio to help deliver best-in-class resources.
