Delivering the Special Olympics Torch Run

Flame of Hope makes its way around the UAE

As part of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 celebrations, 115 Law Enforcement Police Officers and 10 Special Olympic athletes from around the world congregated in the UAE and participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, taking the Flame of Hope on a journey across all 7 Emirates of the UAE and delivering it to the opening ceremony of Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi 2019.
Working with the Local Organizing Committee, the Ministry of Interior, and working groups from across all 7 Emirates, we led the planning and execution of the LETR Final Leg, managing the event production, logistics, and operations of the tour.

After a small arrival ceremony at Abu Dhabi airport on Feb 28 to welcome the Flame, and then the initial lighting ceremony at Founder’s Memorial on March 3, the Flame then embarked on a tour across the nation, starting in Fujairah on Mar 4, 2019 ending with Abu Dhabi city on March 13, 2019.

The Flame was then taken into Zayed Sports Stadium on March 14, 2019, as part of the Special Olympics World Games Opening Ceremony, where the official games cauldron was lit up. Between 3 and 7 ceremonies were held per day in each Emirate, in addition to photoshoots involving the flame at various important cultural and historical landmarks, for a total of 76 stops on this nationwide tour.
