Lynda Nazer describes the experience of working on a global account
The AIA Championship is an annual, regional football tournament, spanning 10 markets, 18 teams and two leagues, was created as part of an internal engagement initiative supporting the brand’s partnership with Premier League football team, Tottenham Hotspur (‘Spurs’).
After delivering an exciting regional championship in Hong Kong, I was looking forward to the much anticipated grand finale in London where the top four teams would battle it out for the coveted trophy on the hallowed turf of White Hart Lane, the home of Spurs.
My core account team from Hong Kong travelled to London, working collaboratively with our head office in London to deliver a memorable Finals programme. As soon as we landed there was no time to waste as we headed straight to North London for meetings at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre to run through the programme one last time ahead of eight exciting days of delivery.
The next few days were spent with our team in London carrying out recce’s of programme venues as well as enjoying a few of the perks of the London office including the infamous ‘Friday Fives’ (an end of week themed ‘social’). Amazingly, even the weather gods were favouring us that week with some glorious sunshine. It was extremely valuable to meet colleagues face-to-face having spent several months working collaboratively from afar, as well as of course catching-up with a few familiar faces who’ve been an integral part of the business for many years.
Once the four AIA winning teams arrived from New Zealand, Australia, China, Indonesia and Thailand, the programme kicked-off with an excursion to Borough market where they enjoyed sampling some delicious food including a bucket of scrummy oysters. That evening we layed-on an unforgettable evening’s entertainment including appearances from some footballing legends, Spurs’ popular stadium announcer Paul Coyte and some team-building games.
Over the weekend, the group was taken to White Hart Lane to watch Spurs beat Watford (COYS!), a first live Premiership football game for many, including myself.
The next few days for the group consisted of a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur training centre, where our guests had the chance to meet and greet the first team. The team from China were particularly excited with cheers, ‘whoops’ and selfies creating a fun atmosphere for the professional and amateur players alike!
The group were then back at White Hart Lane stadium but this time battling it out for the trophy on the pitch. It was a huge success for AIA once again, our absolute priority of course, but also a magnificent learning experience for myself and the team as we were fortunate enough to deliver a truly global activation. We’re already planning for 2018 and I for one cannot wait!
