From Paris to New York
September is a month of tennis in New York as the US Open captures the imagination of a city which produced the seven-time Grand Slam winner, John McEnroe. However, in May this year we disrupted this annual cycle, by bringing the clay-fuelled magic of the French Open to the streets of New York.
Roland Garros in the City, which we designed and produced, brought to life the essence of the greatest clay court tournament in the world some 6,000KM away from it’s home on the banks of river Seine.
Activations varied from pop-up Parisian café mobile trucks, to live transmission of the men’s and women’s semi-final and final matches on a big screen in the Plaza. An authentic, full-size red clay court in the tradition of Roland-Garros provided exhibitions, free classes and recreation for the general public. It also included activations by Longines, Lacoste, and more.
Our team in New York also led the PR efforts for the Roland Garros “Rendez-Vous à Roland Garros” and “Roland Garros in the City” programs, securing national and local broadcast, print, and online press that included: Sports Illustrated, Tennis Channel, New York Daily News, and NBC 4.
