Celebrating the best in horseracing for 2017
The Brands team supported Longines for the fourth year with their 2017 Longines World’s Best Racehorse and Longines World’s Best Horse Race Awards Ceremony held on 23rd
January at the iconic Claridge’s Hotel in London. We provided Longines with event management, influencer engagement, communications, digital and ceremony organisational support. VIPs from the international horseracing community attended the ceremony to celebrate the highest achieving racehorses in the world. Attending influencers included former Olympic, European and Commonwealth Champion and ITV Racing presenter Victoria Pendleton, Ali Gordon (model and social influencer), British model Rosie Tapner, Linnea Aarflot (Swedish model & dressage rider), Bonnie-Jill Lafin (model and TV personality) and Tricia Ronane (former model and the manager of The Clash).
Over 150 guests attended the fifth event of its kind, which began with a drinks reception and lunch ahead of the ceremony. In association with the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA), the ceremony honoured the three highest ranked horses in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings – established by international handicappers – according to the performance of the horses in top races. The highest rated race was determined by averaging the rankings of the first four placed horses in all Group 1 international races.
The 2017 Dubai World Cup winner and 2016 Longines World’s Best Racehorse, Arrogate (US) set himself apart again in 2017 with a rating of 134 and was given the prestigious Longines World’s Best Racehorse Award for the second consecutive year. It was the third consecutive year that trainer Bob Baffert has trained the winner of this celebrated award and the US trainer was in attendance once again to pick up the award. Australian superstar mare, Winx took second honours with a rating of 132, whilst Cracksman (UK) and Gun Runner (US) shared third spot with a rating of 130.
The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe claimed the title of 2017 Longines World’s Best Horse Race. France Galop President Edouard de Rothschild was in London to accept the award and was presented with an elegant Longines timepiece and a replica trophy representing a proud horse head.
