Views from our recent apprentices

We established our North America Apprenticeship Programme in 2022 – one of five key pillars in our broader Grassroots scheme. Grassroots is our approach to sourcing entry level talent through non-traditional routes. The aim? To welcome fresh thinking and new perspectives into our business, and open our doors to more people from diverse backgrounds.

Since the launch, we have found permanent roles for 100% of our first group of apprentices. Here is what a few of them had to say about their experience:

Katherine Gwyn

What apprenticeship did you do and why? I did an apprenticeship with creative operations, and I wanted to do this one in particular because I have always been interested in creative work and love assisting in the operations of managing creatives.

What was one of your favourite experiences as an apprentice? My favourite experience as an apprentice was the people I met; truly the greatest and most welcoming team to come into.

What were some of your key takeaways? My key takeaway was to ask questions and not be afraid to take risks.

What has been your career highlight since finishing? Getting hired!!

What advice do you have for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship? My greatest advice would be to say yes to everything, be yourself, and be confident in your skills!

What apprenticeship did you do and why? Although I applied for the Partner Development Apprenticeship initially, by my third interview I ended up being accepted into a role within the Consulting team. As a very numbers-oriented person who was mostly studying/understanding brand partnerships in a strategic way, this role was the perfect fit for me. I can’t thank the Partnership Development and Consulting teams enough for realising what role fit to my strengths the best before even getting on-boarded!

What were some of your key takeaways? I learned so much! As this was my first tangible experience doing brand consulting, I had to really listen, take notes, and absorb as much information as I could.

What advice do you have for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship? Take an apprenticeship role if you’re willing to treat it as a learning experience. Although many think they know exactly what they want to do out of college, there is so many different niche roles that can fit your strengths.

Talia Cutrone

What apprenticeship did you do and why? I did the Partnership Strategy Apprenticeship because prior to this, I interned within that team and really enjoyed it. As an intern I worked on both creative strategy and deliverables for the Properties team.

What was one of your favourite experiences as an apprentice? Overall how receptive the team is to my ideas, as well as what I want to do. My team has always given me a say in the work that I am doing and has made me feel comfortable in asking questions.

What was a key takeaway? If you want to do something, just ask – whether it is an interest in getting involved with a different team or project that interests you.

What advice do you have for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship? The advice I have is to DO IT… CSM has been the perfect start to my professional career. I learned an immeasurable amount as an apprentice.

What apprenticeship did you do and why? Partner Development Apprenticeship. This department caught my eye because of the large scope of its work!

What was one of your favourite experiences as an apprentice? Attending the EOY Holiday party! There are many employees that I don’t meet face to face in my normal day-to-day. The EOY party allowed me to meet new faces and network with our vast workforce.

What were some of your key takeaways I was often told to not lock myself into an industry without experiencing that industry firsthand. However, after working in the sports and entertainment industry for those six months, I confirmed that sports is where I want to stay.

What advice do you have for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship? Stay hungry and remember what you have to offer. It’s important to respectfully challenge ideas and present your thoughts when necessary.
