It has been a year fuelled by rugby for our offices on Sydney and Auckland

This year was always going to be fuelled by rugby for our offices in Sydney and Auckland with HSBC World Sevens Series tournaments followed by the hotly-anticipated British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand.

New Zealand

Wellington played host to the first HSBC World Sevens Series tournament of the year where even the infamous ‘Welly winds’ weren’t strong enough to blow South Africa off course as they sealed their second of four titles so far this season. Our team on the ground organised the captain’s photo, collaborated with the New Zealand Rugby Union to deliver the HSBC ball carrier competitions and delivered a series of customer relationship events on behalf of the Series title-sponsor. These events included a breakfast where guests enjoyed a Q&A with Mils Muliaina, HSBC Ambassador and former All Blacks legend, and Karl Te Nana, World Rugby Ambassador.

Australia

The following weekend it was Sydney’s turn with a partisan home crowd inspired by Australia Women’s team’s gold run at the Rio 2016 Olympics. We organised stadium tours, commentary box ‘drop-ins’ and trophy activations for all of World Rugby’s sponsors and their guests. We were again challenged with bringing HSBC’s sponsorship to life; taking guests closer to the action with bespoke content and a giant tournament leaderboard. The series of stadium activations which we delivered allowed the bank to engage its retail customers and fans across the weekend. The action on the pitch ended with the South African Men’s team claiming back-to-back titles and the Canadian Women’s team avenging defeat to Australia in Rio by sealing a third-ever tournament win.

Dan Carter

From Sydney to Paris, last month we negotiated a partnership between our client Dan Carter, one of the finest-ever All Blacks, and TAG Heuer, the Swiss watch brand. Carter, the man who produced a masterclass against the British & Irish Lions in 2005 and won the World Cup in 2011 and 2015, joins international superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Brady as a TAG Heuer ambassador.

Julian Savea

One man who will be giving Warren Gatland, the British & Irish Lions head coach, sleepless nights ahead of the series against the All Blacks is our client Julian Savea, the seemingly unstoppable winger who has 45 tries in 52 appearances for his country. We have recently partnered the All Blacks flyer with sports and outdoor watchmaker, G-Shock. You can watch the new partnership content here.
