The Special Olympics MENA Games took place in Abu Dhabi under the umbrella of Special Olympics, a global organisation that aims to empower athletes with intellectual disabilities through sport, and we helped deliver a successful event.
Zayed Sports City was the largest zone for the Special Olympics MENA Regional Games 2018 and played host to 269 athletes across five venues. A team of 32 highly experienced event and venue management professionals, together with our experienced suppliers, built the overlay for the Zayed Sport City zone and managed the MENA Games across the bowling, football, tennis, bocce and gymnastics venues.
This was the first MENA Games of this scale in the region and we successfully managed the Zayed Sport City zone, cementing our commitment to continue working together to plan an outstanding Special Olympics World Games in 2019, in which 7,000 athletes will compete.
As well as delivering a complete look, feel and wayfinding program for the Games we were also on hand to manage, produce and install all the branding to create an impactful and memorable experience for all involved.
The event was broadcast by Abu Dhabi Media and distributed across the UAE. Additionally, the Special Olympics streamed events live on their website that could be accessed globally.
Peter Wheeler, CEO of Special Olympics Abu Dhabi 2019 commented after completion of the Games: “We at the LOC are extremely grateful to the CSM Live team for their efforts leading up to and during the Games. We received many kind comments from SOI, delegations, honored guests and supporters about the professionalism and creativity of the Venue Branding. I have no doubt that this was the result of exceptional teamwork not only between the LOC and CSM Live, but also within CSM Live itself.”
