Meet Derek Song, Senior Account Manager in Singapore

We sat down for five minutes with Derek to hear about an exciting event he’s worked on this year, how CSM has helped shape his career over the years and what a typical day as a Senior Account Manager looks like…

Describe your career in five words.

Exhilarating, Creative, Fun, Risk taking, Inspiring.

Can you tell us about a favourite event / project that you have worked on this year, and why it’s a highlight?

Definitely a hard one especially with the return of events in Asia, my one highlight will definitely be the recent AIA Championship Football tournament we helped AIA organised in London at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Ground. It’s been a long time coming as we have had to take an unfortunate 4 year break due to COVID and markets not being able to travel.

You’ve been with CSM for several years now, how has the business helped shaped your career?

Working at CSM has given me the amazing opportunity to work with some of the best people from around the world across different offices and working on some of the most spectacular events one can only dream of! It gave me a real sense of purpose and drive in knowing how the work we do can provide a real benefit to the community and to our clients.

Tell us a more about your role and what a typical day in the life is like.

I work on the AIA account based out of Singapore and we help them manage the AIA/Spurs Partnership across 18 markets in Asia! A typical day would start off with client catch ups where we talk about the weekend Premier League/football results (which takes up most of our time) before getting down to working out our priorities for the day and week. As exciting as it sounds, our day will usually revolve meeting people virtually across the world where we share updates on the partnership and help AIA markets utilise the partnership better to help them achieve their business objectives.

When not at work, what would we find you doing?

I’m a huge rugby fan and when not at work I’m either at rugby training or in the gym trying to get that beach body!
